Restoration of a Family Portrait

Passed down for generations, this family portrait was involved in a water loss where it was directly exposed to glycol and insulation. After the painting was preemptively stabilized and cleaned, further evaluation revealed evidence of previous restoration, contaminated varnish, uneven fills, voids and heavy overpainting.

The images below show the oil painting in its condition upon arrival at our facility, after preemptive remediation and during treatment.
